Every toddler loves snack time (at least most) so why not attempt to make a semi-healthy snack?
These days there are a lot of children growing up eating junk food, cookies and candy all day. Even if they don’t gain weight from the unhealthy snacks it is still bad for their health.
Sugar intake can have long term effects on a child such as diabetes, tooth decay and obesity. Toddlers should limit their intake of sugar to between 5 and 15 percent of their total caloric consumption. Read here for more information on the risks of high sugar intake for toddlers.
Reading the labels and nutritional facts on the products you buy is a good way to prevent your child from in taking so many calories of sugar.
Below are the ingredients I used and the amount of sugar in each ingredient.
M and Ms 27 Grams
Chocolate Chips 8 Grams
Chex Mix 3 Grams
Total = 38 Grams Total
According to many sources toddlers should only in take 25 grams a day which equals 6 teaspoons of sugar. When reading labels make sure to read the “per serving” to get an accurate amount if you want to keep track on how much your toddler in takes in one day.
No Nut Trail Mix Snack for Toddlers
1 bag of M and Ms
1 bag of chocolate chips
Box of Everyday Essentials Chex Mix Cereal
The directions are pretty simple. mix all the ingredients together in a large bowl. Stir them around to mix them up and transfer to a zip lock bag to keep the mix fresh!
Pretty simple snack idea. I would only recommend giving your toddler a small handful for snack time.
